Huge Progress!
It’s time for an update on what’s happening with the ADV1, and we definitely have a lot of news to share!
Final Prototype Being Developed
We have learned a tremendous amount with all the testing we have done with our first prototype. We are now taking all that we’ve learned and applying it to what will be our final design. There are so many improvements it’s a challenge to list them all.
Here are our goals with all of the changes:
- Improve handling
- Reduce weight
- Move the wheel forward, closer to the center of the trailer for better fore/aft weight distribution
- Simplify, simplify, simplify
- We’ve developed a patent-pending trapezoidal hinge (see our last email for a demonstration of a proof of concept) that will do two things:
- Provide amazing stability at any speed.
- Turn at an amazing 80°. We’ll probably limit that angle after testing.
- We’ve shortened the main body of the ADV1 from 50 inches to 40inches. Despite that reduction, you’ll still be able to carry 4 panniers if you want. We discovered our first prototype was much longer than it needed to be.
- We’ve eliminated the small compartment (we called it the “tongue”) on the front of the main body. Removing it eliminates a few pounds, a lot of complexity, and 10″ in length. We’re getting rid of it for two reasons:
- The new trapezoidal hinge doesn’t need to be mounted on a narrow point to improve the turning angle like the old hinge did.
- We originally thought we would need an onboard pump for the air shock, but now realize we don’t. Part of the reason for the tongue was to house that pump.
- We’ve moved the spare tire carrying system to the back of the trailer. This makes mounting and dismounting tires much easier.
- We’ve shortened the main body of the ADV1 from 50″ to 40.” Despite that reduction, you’ll still be able to carry 4 panniers if you want. We discovered our first prototype was much longer than it needed to be.
- We’ve simplified the attachment system for the universal pannier mounting plates and made it much simpler, more adjustable, and more flexible. And it won’t stick out as far.
- We’ve narrowed the main body of the trailer by about an inch.
- We are experimenting with placing the shock vertically rather than horizontally.
- We’ve totally redesigned how the frame will be made, which will make it much easier to manufacture, reduce the weight considerably, AND increase the stiffness.
- We’ve redesigned the hitch arms and hooks to make them stiffer and make it easier for you to mount the ADV1 to your bike.

We ran into Wes Fleming—the host of Chasing the Horizon Podcast—at the BMW MOA Rally in Springfield, MO. It’s not a big surprise he was there…he is, after all, the host of the BMW Motorcycle Owners of America’s podcast. He came by our booth and said he wanted to have us on the show. And true to his word, a month later Rod “sat down” with Wes and recorded a little chat about Rod’s backstory, what the heck Pasq means, and of course the ADV1.
