Soon-to-be new ADV1 owner here…

As I’m imagining how I will set up the trailer, I can see that attaching panniers will be pretty straightforward. What I’m not sure of is how to add a couple shelves or baskets to the trailer (for a cooler or general cargo purposes). Is there a Pasq shelf available, or have the beta testers fabricated their own?

-Jim

Welcome Jim!
PASQ indeed does have a brilliantly engineered fold down shelf. Got mine mounted yesterday :) I'm going for a little ride this weekend I'll let you know how it goes. I have to find a cooler or a way to secure a couple bear cannisters, just had to wait for the shelf to arrive...

Hey @Jim R, as Tony said we do have a folding shelf available. We finished the final design about 8 weeks ago, ordered and 3D printed all the parts to supply our Beta Testers with them. We got the parts in about 2 weeks ago, assembled the shelves and other attachment systems, and shipped them out. We are waiting for people like Tony use them in real world, and see if we need to make any changes based on their feedback.

They will be available for purchase by the time we are shipping you your ADV1.

We need to take some pictures of them, but Tony has done a good job for us already. Here are a couple of his:

Okay, here’s another question. I’ll have some longer items that I’m planning to put on top of the trailer lengthwise. At different times I’ll carry golf clubs, Archey equipment (takedown bow and some pretty long arrows) and a 2 or 4 piece fly rod. I think my options are to strap one of the following to the top: A travel golf bag, a few sections of thin wall pvc, or an extra long dry bag. I was also thinking of a gun case, but that might gain some unwanted attention.

Anyone have any other ideas on how to carry longer items?

Hi Jim, I've never hauled anything on top longer than a couple drybags end-to-end, and they've got built in straps that work well with areas on the ADV1 to secure to. One of the things I like about the ADV1 is it's a "platform" as opposed to something with no room for customizing. For what you're considering, I'd say...mod away, It's your trailer. The entire top deck area is fertile ground. Just keep an eye on not having something that extends so far off the back that it hides the lights.

Here's my setup so far.

@Jim R I'll echo what @s10ere'rider said, I did a 10 day trip with my tent and sleeping pad simply bungee-netted to the top of the lockbox. The only time I worried about it was when parked for lunch in a big city. On the road it was set-it and forget-it. For sidearms, the lockbox with the right padding would be perfect and pass most state laws I suspect, it certainly isn't within reach of the rider. I could see a longarm case taking up an entire side or top of the ADV1 but you are right, anyone who knows, would know.
Compound or recurve, I could easily see a case mounted to the "fender" and fat PVC pipe mounted to the side rails (I'm thinking 45 degree mount) would hold a quiver .
I see SUP and surfboards on scooters and small bikes all the time around here
I have a short board that would effortlessly mount up on the ADV1 top deck and with the right mounts, I'll bet you could get a longboard on the side.

There is even one nutbag who wants to mount a canoe on the ADV1, if he does, I'll live stream it ;)

OK first ride with the shelf on Friday: Locks up tight, but when folded up I can hear some mild rattles of the "bottom" outside corners of the shelf tapping the fold out stops on the top corners. Jammed a bungee in there and it was silent. Will add some felt furniture pads or something shortly.
Shopped REI & Big5 came away with https://www.rei.com/product/245585/rei-co-op-trailgate-30-l-weekend-cooler which was a bit large but without any hard mount points, left me with a bungee net and a prayer to hold it in place.
After a Saturday ride, I'm sure it would have been fine for weekend trips and such but it was a little large and just did not give me warm fuzzies.
Luckily the Saturday ride took me to a Walmart :) (those are actually rare here) Several diff choices at Walmart, came away with Ultra-Tough Soft Cooler: Leakproof & Built to Float | RTIC which might be a bit smaller than the shelf, but suit my needs, has some built in anchor points so if my bungee net fails, there is backup.
The simplicity and solid build of the shelf is typical Luke. Meaning: A thousand hours of mental sweat and 152 prototypes and we enjoy a product that just damn works. Travelling for a couple weeks, real world weight testing to happen in May...

One of the accessories I've been thinking about would be simple J hook. Something like this:

Three of those and you have a simple way to carry dry bags and all kinds of stuff on the side. They would be far less expensive than the shelf, but of course in it's cheapest form, they would not fold in.

While attending rallies, the top requests for ways to carry stuff we are not supporting yet are:
  1. Dogs
  2. Bicycles
  3. Kayaks (I'm assuming the little short ones, not the long ocean-going variety)

How long is the top platform of the ADV1? The only thing I’ll carry that I don’t have a plan for are golf clubs. I’m thinking of just lashing one of these to the top:

See attached.
Three and a half feet on the deck, fender+lockbox.
Forward of the lockbox hinge, on a Tenere, with an empty Bumont top case rack (lots of variables here) you might have another foot of freeboard.
But under braking, perhaps downhill, (more and more variables) the trap correctly collapses a bit and you'll lose some length for a moment.
Mount the club case, take pix, we'll give you feedback you didn't ask for 😜

Thanks Tony!

So I have 42” on top and need about 50.5” for the golf bag travel case. I think my driver is 48” so I can maybe save a few inches if I go with a different solution. I’ll probably just have them hang over the front and back a bit. And maybe elevate the back so the signals are clearly visible. I don’t expect to take a full set, so I’m starting to lean towards using thin wall PVC as my container. Less bulk. Less weight.

This is great info... my mod is going to be for a mountain bike. I can't wait!!!!

Just an FYI, there's a significant difference between "thinking of" and "seriously considering" loading a 16' Otter canoe on the ADV1... :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

And does the Henry Air Force Survival Rifle, when packed down into the shoulder stock, really qualify as a "long gun"? Asking for a friend who's also got a Garand or two and an M1 Carbine...
