    Yikes. I guess it’s a good thing I asked.

    First Ride - Impressions

Are the three circled Allen bolts (plus the one that’s not visible) what I should be tightening? There’s no 13mm bolt. Just 10mm Allen bolts.

    First Ride - Impressions

Hi Rod, To tighten “the trap” do I do that by tightening hex bolt right on top of the pivot point? And I have no good ideas regarding why so many S10s? One idea I can come up with is the result of what the primary use case is for the ADV1, which is to carry a bunch of gear while you go...

    First Ride - Impressions

Did another test ride and this time with 45lbs of gear on the trailer. Still very smooth and easy to ride. I do think there’s a bit of sluggishness at slow speed, but it’s barely noticeable. Still completely disappears and you don’t know it’s there at higher speeds. One thing I wasn’t...

    First Ride - Impressions

Hi all. For the benefit of those who haven’t experience it yet, and to compare with those who have, and I’ll jump right into my thoughts and reactions after pulling the ADV1 for the first 40 minutes (I’m sitting in Dunks in the middle of my first ride and thought I’d share my first impressions...

    Good to know - thanks!

Giant Loop Round the World Pannier

Looks like Giant Loop has a sale on these now so I’m considering grabbing a set for the ADV1. Giant Loop’s website say it has to be mounted to a rack with round bars. I’ve seen a few pics of ADV1s with these panniers. Any tricks to mounting them?

The “good” ideas aren’t coming to me like they were when I first started brainstorming.

    Jim’s Accessories Wishlist

Okay, this is definitely not on my wish list but it’s an idea nonetheless. How about an adaptor that will fit into a standard vehicle trailer hitch receiver? Why? Who would want this? I really don’t know. But maybe someone wants to move the ADV1 across town and their bike isn’t available. Or...

Web ke? Also, I just realized the what the most indispensable accessories would be: Dispensers for caltrops, oil slicks, and smoke screens of course. Kinda shocked nobody has said that already.

Spare tire holder This one’s not really for me, but for all your customers who imagine themselves crossing Africa or Mongolia or whatever… some of those hard core adventure dudes seem to have the need to care a spare tire or two with them. I could also see an ADV tour operator bringing an ADV1...

R1250GSA w/ Bumot and Touratech 45Ltr Panniers and PASQ Shelves, Nanuk 938 Case and Igloo Cooler

Maybe because if you chose an S10, you prioritized utility and durability over the highest performance runway fashion model. And the ADV1 suits the type?

Tony, I also love the S10. Picked up my 2018 fully kitted out a couple years ago. In my view, compared to a used GS, you get 90% of the performance at 60% of the price. Plus you get Yamaha reliability, a final drive that never fails, and lower ongoing cost of ownership. Even if they cost the...

    Weight/Balance Question

With my initial question, I was wondering if it makes sense to add a little more weight up front when using an axel mounted hitch. I was thinking that you would just be adding more weight to the rear tire without stressing the suspension and that would provide more traction for acceleration and...

R1250GSA w/ Bumot and Touratech 45Ltr Panniers and PASQ Shelves, Nanuk 938 Case and Igloo Cooler

$20+K bike, $2K+ panniers, $7K trailer, and you’re waiting for an igloo cooler to go on sale to finish your setup. I think it’s funny, but I also do the exact same thing. I pay for premium items when they are durable, high quality, and clearly best-in-class (And I really, really want it). At...
