    Let them eat cake.

Took a break from the bikes in Southern Idaho and went for a ride with cousin in his Polaris Ranger. There's nothing quite like finding a high mountain lake and roasting hotdogs over the campfire.

Baker City to Challis. We find ourselves doing a bit of backtracking today as I missed one turn and then a paved road turned to gravel and The RS gets a bit too squirrelly for what looked to be 70+ miles of gravel. From Baker south on 7 to 245. This is best described as a paved BDR. Narrow...

From Baker City, OR Sharon wanted to run over to Pendleton. We took the freeway afterwards ran 395 south and started wandering through mountain roads back towards Baker City. The plan was gas, eat and head to Ontario. We had enough daylight to make by freeway. But where's the fun on that. After...

We we're riding from Hells Canyon to Baker city and this was in a field. Most of these have been torn down and sold for scrap.

Years ago these burn towers were at every saw mill. There was a conveyor that would that would load the burner with the scraps of wood that was not worthy of making lumber. Today these jackets are chipped and used in many different ways.

Friday the 13th finds us riding south on US95 out of Grangeville, ID. Plan was to ride the old Whitebird hill but it was starting to rain and I missed the turn. Anyway we continued south to Cambridge. Stopping in old stomping grounds where I met my wife in highschool a long time ago. Meanwhile...

    Let them eat cake.

Yesterday was another short day. After leaving Lolo pass we continued west on US12. It's surprising what you see running the speed limit through there. Stopped in Kooskie for lunch. Then south on SR13. I'm pretty sure I was reading the license plate on the trailer through a couple corners. We...

    Let them eat cake.

We had a special treat on Lolo pass. We stopped at the top to look around and stretch. A gal asked if we just stopped or stopped for a reason. Apparently the Camas flower only blooms for 4 days up there. And we got lucky.

My thoughts of a shortcut. The wedding was in Choteau, MT. Or "H" on the map.

    Let them eat cake.

Today we continue on with new direction. Just a short day from Choteau, MT to Lolo, Mt. Tomorrow we put the trailer to a true test. US12 from Lolo, MT to Kooskie, ID then south to McCall. Some great twistie roads. Canadian wildfires are flooding Montana with smoke. So pics would not be good.

    Weight testing

I didn't think the sag would make that big of a difference. But it does. As Sharon is following my I ask her quite often what the trailer is doing over bumps and potholes. If the sag is to tight it bucks a little. If too loose it shakes more at slow speed.

So we made it. Our shortcut was 1800+ miles. The wedding/ family reunion was awesome. We're going to see where the bikes take us next. But here's a pic of the cake.

    Weight testing

Yesterday's weight test results. The bags on the bike are empty. Top case empty front panniers removed. So 20lbs in the metal pannier and ice chest. Sag adjusted speed limit was 70mph with a few sweepers. The handling was reminiscent of riding without the trailer and 55lbs in topbox. It took...

    Weight testing

When I picked up the trailer at Luke's house. Rod said there should be between 1.5 to 2" of up travel. So I don't worry about adding 12 lbs weight and set at "X" psi. I add the weight then sharply push down on the rear of the trailer and release. And watch what it dies. If it pops up to the top...
