    Weight/Balance Question

One man's opinion: I trail brake, a lot. I noticed after the first 2-3k miles that I was not trail braking as heavily in the chicane. Might be the trailer putting a couple pounds of unsprung weight on the rear axle, might be conservation of rotational energy in the third axle, might be my...

R1250GSA w/ Bumot and Touratech 45Ltr Panniers and PASQ Shelves, Nanuk 938 Case and Igloo Cooler

Love it. My cooler will be just that, but pulling the liners out of my soft bags to get them into a hotel (along with my office-backpack) was always 2 trips. Intrigued by the idea of everything-in-one...

R1250GSA w/ Bumot and Touratech 45Ltr Panniers and PASQ Shelves, Nanuk 938 Case and Igloo Cooler

~50k miles ago I paid for my Tenere, kitted out, about what I paid for my ADV1. I beat hell out of both of them, neither seems ready to quit. Not sure which purchase has brought me more joy...

    Weight/Balance Question

I'm reminded of the young Buddhist monk and the ancient Buddhist monk crossing a bridge over a river. The young monk asks if enlightenment is like the river below or the sky above. The ancient one throws the youngster into the river and says "Swim in it and figure it out" Peter, I feel your...

    Bags on the Bike?

@Jim R I ❤️ my Bumots. I have bashed them on granite, in mud and on a Tacoma fender and they just keep asking for more. @rod My big RH Bumont locking hardcase carries my office (laptop in bag) and it has for most of 30k(?) miles. Laptop-in-bag-in-locked-pannier. When I'm mobile, I need to be...

I'm of two minds: Mount the LiFePO4 Deep Cycle Battery(ies) linked to a foldable solar array on the ADV1 powering a StarLink antenna (lord knows we have the room for such insanity) and work lit-er-all-ly from anywhere on the big blue marble or Keep my SPOT close and get the hell away from all...

It's not just the Rockies, the Sierra Nevada got snow down to 4000' yesterday. But I like where your head is at Paul!

I would just about bet that floating .22 when collapsed would fit in the lockbox.

    Jim’s Accessories Wishlist

Great minds and all that. I nudged the boys about a QR code or logoing on the shelf when it is folded up. And I've tried to move the ADV1 around like a wheelbarrow but the trap wants to do it's thing. Maybe with a patented backup device...

    Jim’s Accessories Wishlist

"long cargo baskets" I swear the first image in my head was 4077 MASH helicopters carrying wounded. I carry a MC specific med kit, used once in 20 years, I wonder if first responders or bicycle cops could find a use for a lightweight trailer with an AED plus serious medkit? Late night imagining...

Easy Saturday ride out to explore and pick a place to camp, lazy Sunday morning to explore more and wander home. Remind me again why I live in California?

See attached. Three and a half feet on the deck, fender+lockbox. Forward of the lockbox hinge, on a Tenere, with an empty Bumont top case rack (lots of variables here) you might have another foot of freeboard. But under braking, perhaps downhill, (more and more variables) the trap correctly...

Blocked out the dates next March. Let's continue the convo. Been too long since I've been to death valley. You bring the water, I'll bring the dog treats ;)

    Canoe/kayak mounting?

Peter, I canoed a lot as a Scout in the Pacific Northwest and in AK. The weight is not an issue. The frame could be easy part, schedule 80 PVC is tough stuff. It's the length. I was thinking about this since we chatted and just went out to measure. (Yes it's 4 AM, but the racoons are up, so...

It was a good (at times terrifying) day, great to meet Peter, he has a sweet HAM setup that'll look great when it moves to the ADV1. Congrats Jim on your IB! I've done them twice, not really on purpose just got rolling early and had a good groove so just kept going. Who here will be the first...

    California - 55 MPH while towing - applicable/enforced for ADV1??

@PBKrarup Great to meet you and thanks for the invite! The view from the top was one I've not seen before and it was a good crew to ride with. As mentioned, when the big brown truck delivers your boxes, I'll swing by, drink your beer and criticize your work ;) For anyone wondering why we put...

OK first ride with the shelf on Friday: Locks up tight, but when folded up I can hear some mild rattles of the "bottom" outside corners of the shelf tapping the fold out stops on the top corners. Jammed a bungee in there and it was silent. Will add some felt furniture pads or something...

@Jim R I'll echo what @s10ere'rider said, I did a 10 day trip with my tent and sleeping pad simply bungee-netted to the top of the lockbox. The only time I worried about it was when parked for lunch in a big city. On the road it was set-it and forget-it. For sidearms, the lockbox with the...

Welcome Jim! PASQ indeed does have a brilliantly engineered fold down shelf. Got mine mounted yesterday :) I'm going for a little ride this weekend I'll let you know how it goes. I have to find a cooler or a way to secure a couple bear cannisters, just had to wait for the shelf to arrive...
