What's In A Name...especially "Pasq" and "ADV1"

I'm pretty sure it's on the website somewhere, but I'm curious how many of you know why the company is called Pasq?

First Name: Roam

We were looking for a company name. Our first choice for the company name was "Roam" but our trademark lawyer just laughed and said to try again. We even had a logo made:

The Name, Pasq

So we were searching for a new name, and we knew it had to be unique. I owned a Hyundai Ioniq at the time (my second favorite sedan of all time...such a great car. My first favorite...my 1969 BMW 1600. I like them for completely different reasons!) I liked how Hyundai used the "q" to sound like a hard "ch" so I was playing with words that end with that hard "ch" sound. At the same time, Julia on our team suggested we think about flower names for inspiration. I grew up in Montana and South Dakota, and I immediately thought of the SD state flower, the pasque.

The pasque is an early spring flower that blooms all over North America, Europe, and Asia. It is also called the wind flower, prairie crocus, Easter flower, and meadow anemone. Apparently the name "pasque" is related to the Christian observance of Passover since it blooms right around Easter.

So, I thought we could just lop off the unnecessary French "ue" 😏 on the end and we had a good contender for a name. I hit the trademark lookup tools as well as the State of Illinois company registry. There were tons of companies and trademarks around "pasque" but none around "Pasq." BOOM! We had a name that I liked, had history with, and was unique. And yes, the real name is Pasq®. The name, the bird or trail through the mountains logo, and the custom font version of Pasq are all registered trademarks. I have the certificate hanging on the wall beside me as I type.

ADV1 Name

The name ADV1 is probably a little more selfevident. I have always had the idea that we would make more than one model of trailer. We'd want to make a trailer for the cruiser market, touring bikes, enduros, electric motorcycles, and maybe even bicycles since the Bob trailer has pulled out of the US.

The 1 is an indication that more ADV models will be coming. And with the trend toward smaller ADV bikes is growing rapidly (think BMW R350GS), Luke and I are thinking the ADV2 needs to come pretty rapidly to fill that market.

Interesting! I do have a question, when posting pictures of our setup, is their a hashtag we can include to direct them to you? #pasq #adv1 #bringing the kitchen sink :)

I will check with our social media person (Colleen) and get her recommendations. I'm sure it'll be the first two, and maybe not the third... 😏 You can also always post to this forum a URL of any post you do so we all have a chance to see it and like/up-vote it.

Okay, I checked with Colleen and here is a link to a Google Sheet that has some hashtags the team found in use that Pasq could piggy back onto. HOWEVER, she said that the main hashtags she uses are:
  • #pasq
  • #adv1
And then she adds any other appropriate tags from the above list.

Let me know what you think!
