PowerWerks Megabox fitment?

Just to be clear @PBKrarup if that 7+ ever shakes loose, I'm finding your-over-prepared-ass :p
Dimensions look good, but I'm not seeing weight on the specs of the box?
Also not sure how BMW CANBUS nonsense gets heavy gauge power to charge/recharge such a thing. Luke's wiring is brill for most things, but heavy amperage would require dedicated circuits, I think.

Dr Glenn & Billy of Clearwater Lights were at the 49er Rally and I informed them that I'd be visiting when I got my ADV1 to seek their assistance in wiring the Mini Billie, my ham radio, and a battery (& maybe a hibachi grill & sous-vide station) to it.

Regarding the weight of the box, it's an "empty" shell and can hold a variety of batteries depending on needs, and the extra space inside is for cables, electrical tape, fuses, etc., etc., etc...

I don't push the envelope, I beat it into submission... 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Here are some dimensions you may want to consider IF you are thinking about putting a battery in the internal storage area:
  • Internal dimensions are:
    • 7.6" wide
    • 12" long (at the bottom)
    • 15" long at the top
  • The opening is:
    • 6" wide
    • 15" long
Hope this helps!

I'm a very visual person, could you drop an engineering drawing in this thread? ;-)

I've contacted PowerWerks and given them the dimensions, asking them to check if the box would fit. Otherwise, I'd have to buy it and see if it fits and then deal with returning it if it didn't. Oh, well, such is life. Get lemons, turn into margaritas. ;-)

Had no idea Clearwater was so close! I wonder if they have a scratch-&-dent box I could poke thru...

Well, I made the moderately exhausting trip over the Rt 92 San Mateo bridge** on Thursday to visit Tony, his lovely SO, & dogs to check fitment & finer details of his ADV1. Good thing I brought some Deschutes Black Butte Porter for us, so the recovery period was brief!! Side note - the AltRider pillion extension plate has an integrated bottle opener.

The Powerwerx Mini Pwrbox2 battery box (LiFePO4, 12V, CV: 14.6V, MCC: 30A) fits in the top compartment at an angle and the DC-to-DC battery charger (solar panel to unit to Pwrbox2) would fit comfortably at various locations on the ADV1, etc., answer being resounding yes. Happiness abounds.

The 60A solar panel(s) fit perfectly in the Mosko 40L duffle, so I know how that's going to be utilized! I'm SO amped up about getting the ADV1... ;-)

If I sound like a commercial for Powerwerx, they haven't sent me a check yet, but their gear is awesome.

** San Mateo–Hayward Bridge - Wikipedia is seven miles long, with a max height of 134' (fatal if going over it, FWIW). Winds over 20mph are generally brutal heading west and lanesplitting going west isn't encouraged for both pavement & traffic reasons. Just my opinion...

EDIT: I checked Terminal Velocity Calculator and a 220# object (me with gear) would be hitting the hard water at about 100mph. Send smelly flowers, play Led Zeppelin's "When the Levee Breaks"...

The beer was good. The company better. Sorry the puppy was so skittish, but he is an idiot :)
I rarely lock the ADV1 topbox, just keep crap in there I can afford to lose and a bungee net to keep it closed. That will likely change now that I've put a keyless lock on there. I've noticed a tiny bit of condensation on the underside of the lid, not surprising living at sea level, within sight of the sea, but regularly dragging the ADV1 across 7,000' passes.
Never had any water intrusion despite my lackadaisical attitudes to securing the lid.
Great to physically see that badass battery+box will fit in the ADV topbox (lunchbox? lockbox? what do we call that space?) without issue, and fun to wireframe the location of the rectifier, the antenna, the solar panels, the rocket launcher... Wile E. Coyote (Super Genius) would be proud.

@PBKrarup We ran out of time but I meant to mention, when I went into the city last week without the ADV1, the winds (for those who are not from here, every. single, afternoon. there are strong winds NW to SE that hammer the San Francisco Peninsula and it's bridges) and as I rode into the city without the trailer (because city parking is a bitch with a trailer, super easy with just a bike) the winds were _worse_ without the trailer.
Ride your ride for a thousand miles with the trailer. Disconnect, and allofasudden your bike is as twitchy as a track bike.
The ADV1 with it's conservation of momentum in the 3rd flywheel (rim+tire) ADDS stability.
At least for me on grooved pavement in serious winds.
I would love to hear other folks' feedback on this.

PBKrarup, once said, "I don't push the envelope, I beat it into submission... " Yeah...perhaps an understatement!

I very much agree, but with one addition. I feel more stable on gravel with the ADV1...kind of like having a rudder or a drogue behind you, giving stability. For me, the ADV1 doesn't really impact the ride in a strong side wind, but that seems to mean it's making up for the increased side exposure with the centripetal force of the wheel/tire?

And, I agree with Tony, we'd love to hear about all of your experiences!!

Ixnay onay theay ocketray auncherlay! 🤣🤣

Dogs are never a problem, they were fun.

Please let me know if you're going to fit a bicycle on the trailer, I've got a Trek road-bike that might fit, just worried about stability.

I didn't bring the ABUS hasp and lock from Amazon but it should fit the ADV1 quite nicely (might have to widen the lock hole a tad, shouldn't be a problem) and provide upgraded security at low-ish cost.

Yeah, the ADV1 is a blank canvas for Frankenstein-like electronic and general "Beverly Hillbillies" loading experiments. Did I mention that I also fly-fish and have collapsible rods? 😁

Cory Call is a local BMW racer and he met a midwest cop hauling an ADV1 on a KTM 890, who's that, Rod? 😁 I told him that I'd come by the shop when I've got it kitted-out for his take.

Well, I'm getting senile, because I have to consider both the battery box AND the ham radio base to be stored in the top compartment and figure out antenna placement, antenna cable, power cords to either the battery box or the main bike battery, AND CAT5/6 to the radio head at the handlebars. Head explody time...

I can coil the antenna cable fairly tightly in the compartment and mount the antenna base through the top or side, not having to worry about the mag base.

I can maybe mount the radio vertically inside at the front as long as I have room for cables at top & bottom (power & CAT5/6 on top, antenna at bottom?) and maybe the DC-DC power converter on the outside front or side? Aaarrrggghhh... I don't do CAD, unfortunately. I'm going to have to sketch it out very carefully or maybe just wait until I get the ADV1 and start taping things in place...

Tony, if you're back at some point, I need to make another house call... :D

On the road until July, maybe the weekend of the 12th, remind me then...
Until then, LibreCAD can do a ton in 2D and the learning curve is short.
3D drafting is the norm now but unless your model is measured in square kilometers, I won't be much help :)

Any way I can get a top-down picture of the top compartment? I keep on thinking there's a step/platform at the back that's a few inches deep, am I imagining things? Also imagining that the sloped angle is about 45-degrees & 4-5" long? No rush/hurry, just trying out LibreCAD for funsies. :D
