Welcome Jim!
PASQ indeed does have a brilliantly engineered fold down shelf. Got mine mounted yesterday :) I'm going for a little ride this weekend I'll let you know how it goes. I have to find a cooler or a way to secure a couple bear cannisters, just had to wait for the shelf to arrive...

What kind of bear would fit into a canister? Willingly, anyway. :D

Hi, Rod!

In addition to the tail lights, I'd like to get the Clearwater Lights Billie Jr installed at the back of the ADV1. I'll buy it & send it to you when needed. It hooks into most/all of the CANBUS doodads and (hopefully) picks up the programming of my bike-mounted Billie Jr.

There's a "mini-Billie" that doesn't have the license-plate screw-holes but it attaches via double-sided tape and I'd rather avoid that potential failure point.

The unit is approximately 2" high, if that helps.

The online manual for the Billie is here - https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0...-ee06-4558-bf0e-a0cbf4b2171a.pdf?v=1635289164

It seems like this connects to a CANopener. There's not a CAN system on the trailer (it connects to the bikes CANsmart) so most likely, another set of wires would need to be run to the front of the trailer to a CAN system. The other option would be to wire everything individually into the existing wires at the back. This is probably the better option but will be fairly involved.

If need be, I can bring the whole kit & kaboodle up to Clearwater Lights when I get the ADV and let them figure out the wiring.

I'm sure they'd be happy to figure it out and see the ADV1 so they can advertise their solution.

I'm excited to talk with Clearwater at the upcoming shows. I've never spoken with them, but at least two of our Beta Testers use the CANopener and love it. I know one of the beta testers daisy chained a CANopener and a Denali CANsmart with no problems at all.

Pics & writeup, stat!! ;-)

FWIW, my birthday is 1 August so if a large package shows up on my doorstep close to that date, I'll be very happy.

Indeed, the Billie does connect to the Clearwater Lights' CANopener and per Billy at Clearwater, "The wire can be as long as 120 inches and you still be fine for the Billie brake light."

Therefore I assume that the wire from the Billie can run from the light all the way through the ADV1 wiring harness to the CANopener on the bike.

Hopefully, that will also allow my ham radio's power lines, CAT5 signal lines, and antenna cable to also share that wiring access, however that ends up. I'll try to avoid a rat's nest of spaghetti wiring!!

EDIT: Oh, and I'd probably see if I could upgrade the USB to handle charging a phone, a tablet, my helmet's Sena, and my Spot devices. Ray Bradbury's "I Sing the Body Electric" comes to mind once again!! :D

Adventures in configurations!! :D

Hey, I'm using my imagination here!! :D

HMMWVs had a small (4"x4") solar panel on the hood to charge their batteries, no reason one couldn't be attached to the front side of the ADV1, right?

Grommets on the foldable solar panel = laying it over the top luggage & charging as you ride, yay! :D

I'm of two minds:
Mount the LiFePO4 Deep Cycle Battery(ies) linked to a foldable solar array on the ADV1 powering a StarLink antenna (lord knows we have the room for such insanity) and work lit-er-all-ly from anywhere on the big blue marble
or
Keep my SPOT close and get the hell away from all humanity until further notice

Not sure which would be more fun...

Already worried about competition from Bezos's outfit, whatever it's called?

I'm going to stick with available (Verizon) coverage for my phone & my SpotX GPS beacon.

I'm not that worried about trying to keep up with the Kardashians or Bachelor or Tigerman, whatever.

My wife was on Jeopardy and we DVR that & the various Nature/NOVA stuff, I'll catch up when I get home.

Just a thought for the day/week - These last few generations live better than the old kings & queens of Europe and we don't recognize it. I visited the Railroad Museum in York, England and saw Queen Victoria's private train & the compartment where she relieved herself. Just an upholstered chair with a hole in the bottom where her poop & pee just dumped onto the railroad ties. Yay, sanitation...

I would just about bet that floating .22 when collapsed would fit in the lockbox.
I'm going to experiment with that, whether it floats negligibly better if the two magazines are loaded. Oh, and I picked up 500 rounds of .22LR, so I'm not loaded for bear... Definitely loaded for empty beer cans, tho.... :D

This is what continually amazes me: moving weight off the bike onto the trailer makes it all but dissappear.
Here is an 18 pack on the shelf, brought home, and after KSU I forgot about it the entire ride home.
